I was at Picton Fair yesterday and got talking to another person from the "English" set - I know her well. No names will be mentioned but we all know this farm.... It seems a "farm we all know" went out of town to a big english show up near Orillia. The People got a motel room for the night and left all the horses on the trailer for the night. Not sure if it was the Hot, Humid time. Anyway these people got up and went to the show. All ready but nowhere to show! They were told at the gate - You left your horses on the trailer all night while you all were at a motel - your not welcome to show here because of this. Guess they have not changed! I hope they preregistered and that it cost a bit. Serves them right treating the animals like that - they could have rented stalls for the night! Some people are so CHEAP! Since I do know this farm quite well I bet the parents of the kids showing paid the motel bill, gas, etc so the farm did not have to pay anything.... Anyway thought I would pass this on! Have a good one! Bettie

Your post has ruined my day but I'm glad as hell you posted it. I had to sit and cry over this. Is makes me so frigging sick to my stomach and seething through my teeth that these 'people' are still abusing animals. Those poor horses! My heart goes out to them. God bless them. Thank you Bettie for sharing. I know who you are talking about.

Uh oh. I can just imagine myself having to sit on a trailer all night....stiff and sore, not mention mentally challenged and antsy when I finally emerged. Poor horses! A little birdie must have told the fair board, cause how would they have ever known? Would they have jurisdiction over what goes on OFF the fairgrounds? Whatever, I'm glad that it happened the way it did. I always put myself in my horse's postion. They think and feel pain and discomfort just like we do. Why should I act like they don't? The fact that I am responsible for their comfort and well being makes it even more important that I connect with their needs. Kudos to the fairboard who have continued to confirm to them that their attitude towards their horses is just not acceptable. Bothers me that they slept in comfy beds while their horses stood at attention all night in cramped quarters!

It's good to know there are other people out there that care enough about horses to punish those who abuse them. My heart-felt thanks goes out to the Picton fair people who refused them entry. Helen
