Someone complained about my horses and the Quinte Humane Society came to my home regarding the "Small Space, No Shade And My Horses Not Being Looked After" This complaint was unjustified - even the Investigator stated it. I believe that when someone complains out of spite, get even or harassment that the complainer should be charged and held liable for any and all costs involved. The cost for two officers and their gas, etc. would feed a good many animals at the shelter!

Dear bettieb see if you can find out who it was by requesting the report from the humane society under the 'freedom of information act' then post the culprits name.
The humane society should charge $100.00 for false reporting to help feed the animals in their care. That would stop this kind of nonsense.

Get the report and post the name. I for one want to know who it is! Mishii's Mum

Oct 12 05 UPDATE I finally got the a copy of the Cruelty Report Investigation Report for Agent McQuaid. I had to phone him twice but I am very persistant!!!
The complaint read the following: 2 horses in a small paddock, no visible hay or water, paddock is just dirt. Owner seen by neighbours dumping manure into the bay out of her boat.
I have the full report which states there are NO CONCERNS over my horses - their health or care. States that they are excellent in weight. (No ribs showing that you can count or sunken hips!) Agent McQuaid also states that I have 2 dogs living in my home and both are in excellent health. He states I was irate at their visit (2 uniformed men) but very compliant with them. Also states I told them of "on going issues with a neighbour". There is potable water for them (from my spring feed well), no feces (manure) in the stalls or paddock, fan inside forcing air movement in stalls, all medical history & extensive care records from Dr Grier. I am so fed up with these "on going issues"! When are these people ever going clean their own door steps and leave mine alone? A lot of my friends, clients and people I have run into feel that whom ever complained - they sure did not have much to do. Even a judge at a local fair could not understand this complaint... This is the second time that a cruelty complaint has been made against me or where my horse was. The last time was in 1995 and I have a copy of the original showing the complaintant's name and the results. I guess I will just remember "WHAT GOES AROUND, COMES AROUND!"

OPPS!!! I forgot to let everyone know that does not know me I DO NOT DUMP MY MANURE IN THE LAKE! It is not a bay - it is Lake Consecon. I am lucky to have the lake frontage and I would not stoop that low!!! Maybe, just maybe this is where the complaintant gets rid of her manure.... Food for thought! I do not have a manure pile next to my barn/shelter as high as my roof - I have a dump trailer that is loaded daily from the manure pickup (I do my morning chores cleaning the 2 stalls and I do a nightly pickup of my paddock) and when it is full it is trailered to two very nice men - two different places and they will take all that I have. So you see I do not have a manure problem... I heard this story 2 years ago about me dumping the manure in the lake. A close friend's daughter was on the school bus and overheard a girl (that goes up the road!!) saying that "there is that person that dumps the manure in the lake" My friend's daughter spoke up and told her that was not true. At that time my manure was being spread with their horse's manure on her grandfather's land. Needless to say the next day the girl told her she was sorry and only repeated what she had heard with out knowing all the facts. It is so terrible when people are discredited and called liars by a judge - I guess they just have to make up lies and since they do not know the truth from the lies they just believe what ever they lie about and get other people thinking the worst about someone with out even knowing the person.... I will leave this alone for now. Be very careful with your animals - you never know who is watching and waiting to get you or your animals!

I'd worry about the humane society visiting your farm Bettie. Worried that they will take one look around and then ask you if you could take some more animals in and give them the same excellant home your ponies and puppies have ;D We all know who the complaintant's are don't we?
